Groups That Are Exempt From Obamacare

FactCheck.org via a Freedom of Information Act request has obtained the list of religious groups whose members are exempt from the Obamacare requirement that they purchase health insurace.

The law defines exempt groups using the definition from 26 U.S. Code section 1402(g)(1), which describes the religious groups currently considered exempt from Social Security payroll taxes. Eligible sects must forbid any payout in the event of death, disability, old age or retirement, including Social Security and Medicare.

They are:

Anabaptist

Beachy Amish 

Bethel Fellowship

Blue Creek Mennonite

Body of Christ

Bretheren by Grace

Brownsville Mennonite

Calvary Bible Fellowship

Cambridge Christian Fellowship

Caribbean Light and Truth

Carroll County Christian Brotherhood

Charity Ministries

Christian Anishinabec Fellowship

Church of God in Christ

Church of Jesus Christ Christian

Cimarron Christian Brotherhood

Cornerstone Churches

Conservative Brethren

Ebeneza Netherlands Reformed Congregation

  2. What about the League of Spiritual Discovery? 50 years ago in Tune in, Turn on, Drop Out, Tim Leary was advocating folks start their own religion in order to legally ignore the dictates of the State. I guess it's time to start writing that charter and get it notarized.

  3. How do I get on this list? No seriously, how does a group get on this list? I'd like to be exempt, just like Obozo is exempt from Obamacare.

    1. Exactly, I downloaded the list last night and was scrolling through it....it's mostly Amish.

      Too bad we can make libertarianism a religion and get an exemption, eh?
