The Walter Block-Bernie Sanders Connection

Walter Block emails:

Dear Bob:

With regard to this excellent piece:

You may be interested to know that Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and I went together to Madison High School in Brooklyn (Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman, NY Senator Chuck Schumer and  Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg also did - this high school has a lot to answer for - http://www.nysun.com/new-york/school-for-senators-turns-up-in-brooklyn/43324/). Bernie and I overlapped for 4 years at Madison High School, and then one year at Brooklyn College. Bernie and I were never good friends, but we were acquaintances. We both ran the same events on the Madison track team (anywhere from the half mile to 2.5 miles cross country.) I hate to admit this, but Bernie was an excellent runner, one of the top athletes in the entire city, while my accomplishments in track and cross country were far more modest.

I didn't become a libertarian until my senior year at Brooklyn College, so Bernie and I never discussed politics. Mainly sports, Madison High issues, and, to the best of my recollection, girls of course. Bernie still has a thick Brooklyn accent. I've struggled to get rid of mine, only partially successfully.

Best regards,

Walter

  2. Is Walter Block the only non-Jew in that list? Impressive achievement by them all, of course, but no surprise given their high average IQ that Jews are prominent in so many career fields across America. (Alas, the only "crime" is noticing & pointing it out).
