President Visits His Government Trained KIllers in Afghanistan

President Obama made a surprise visit to Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan on Sunday.

He thanked them for killing:
I thank you as your Commander-in-Chief because you inspire me. Your willingness to serve, to step forward at a time of war, and say 'send me,' is the reason the United States stays strong and free. Of all the honors that I have serving as President, nothing matches serving as your Commander-in-Chief...So I'm here to say thank you.  I'm here to say I'm proud of you.  The American people are proud of you.  God bless you.  God bless the United States Armed Forces.  And God Bless our United States of America.

  2. "...and say 'send me,' is the reason the United States stays strong and free." Does this still makes sense to these folks? Do they (mainly conservatives) not understand the dwindling purchasing power and who's causing it? You would think the pro-military types would smell a rat once they see somebody like Obama give praise to them. I mean, they must have major cognitive dissonance when it comes to fiscal issues. Sadly, I think they're going to say this mantra going right into the grave. There's no meaning to it; it's just a mantra. Though I do find it interesting to watch for the psyche aspect of it.

I wouldn't give them too much credit for being "trained killers". Often times it's a mundane job. I think it was the Duffel Blog that had a parody of a general that was retiring and giving a speech to his subordinates. In one of the lines, (paraphrasing) he said don't think you're all 'hot stuff"; you most likely never saw action and did anything more than sit around. It's government work, what do you expect?

Often times, in my personal experience, whenever these guys leave the military and come to work where I work, they're horrible workers. Had one guy get high on whatever during lunch in his car and just stood there for the rest of the work day. Had another guy that used to be an LAPD - got fired for whatever reason - and when we fired him, it was because he was an idiot. Not all former government workers are bad in the private sector. Right now I work with one that is pretty good, and there's a lot of people that have never worked in government that are bad. Yet, the ratio in my experience is not good.

What's more infuriating about this whole "I have to give a moment of silence for the troops" or whatever, is that they're not doing it for "us"; they're doing it for themselves. They may be inspired because it's seen as a honorable thing, but that honorable thing is turned into something selfish. That honor becomes a government mandate "right" much like an advocate for minimum wage sees minimum wage laws. Talk to one of these younger folks that enlisted about the benefits, and they'll give you all sorts of strategies in how to gain benefits from the military. A lot of them marry just to gain benefits. I know of one guy that got married and reentered the military just to gain a higher wage. Even more sadly, one thing that opened my eyes and put me off from the military was when I began to talk to younger folks that left the military. They used it as nothing but a welfare system. They didn't do anything in the military. They never saw action or did anything special. All they wanted and talked about was gaining benefits and some paycheck. It's not about serving their country is it now?

  4. Gross. I have no idea why I just watched that. Perhaps it was the morbid fascination with how much horse shit a group of soldiers can consume. Frankly, it downright scares the hell out of me. America is now Borg.
