What To Do If Your Google Calendar Events Disappear

This likely will be my only public service announcement here at EPJ in 2015.

I recently raved about my new Samsung S6 and the great voice recognition from "Google Okay."

And then, my appointments started disappearing on my Google calendar. It got so bad that I was unprepared for a radio interview because it was wiped from my calendar, and I had to reschedule.

After much poking around, I realized that the problem was that my great new Samsung cell phone was overriding my Google calendar. If I entered an item on my calendar from my computer, the next time it would sync with my cell phone, Google would take what was on my cell phone calendar as the most recent version and wipe out any dates I had scheduled via my computer as opposed to my cell phone.

The solution is simple.

The ONLY way your cell phone will properly sync with your Google calendar is if you use the official Google Calendar app. Just download it from Google Play.

You also must disable any other calendars that are on your phone. In the case of the Samsung S6, you must click on the Samsung calendar app, Then click on "More." Then Click on "Manage Calendars"

And then under Device, turn off "My Calendars"

  1. Thinking like this about google is not appropriate, can't even imagine that this could be done in the case of google. But still thanks for sharing.

  2. OMG thank you for this! I have been dealing with the problem for MONTHS and NO ONE from Google, ATT, or Samsung could figure it out. I have been almost in tears over it. Thank you so much.

  3. Thanks! I have S5 and it has S Planner. Maybe that is what was causing the problem, so I went and unchecked my calendars in there. Hopefully it will fix the problem because Google calendar has been sporadically deleting everything from my work calendar for months now. So frustrating!
