THE DONALD TRUMP EFFECT Tiffany 5th Avenue Sales Plummet 14 Percent

The president-elect won't tweet this news.

Sales at Tiffany's flagship Fifth Avenue store tumbled 14 percent in November and December compared with the same period last year, and the jeweler blames "post-election traffic disruptions" in part for the drop.

The Manhattan location is steps from Trump Tower, which has been surrounded by security barricades, protesters and a perpetual media encampment since the election.

  1. More like the NYPD effect. Did Trump ask them to close the sidewalk in front of Tiffany's and park police cruisers on it? Can the media really encamp on a public sidewalk or street and block everyone else from going about their business? I suppose the answer to the latter question is yes because they set up a camp on the public road outside of Ken Star's home during Monica. But surely in a crowded area like NYC there must be some grounds to ask the media to "move along". For example, an ordinary citizen cannnot park on fifth Avenue or one of the major midtown cross streets for an entire day. You can pay the meter but there is a shortish limit (maybe two hours) with a warning "no repeat parking". Ie, you can't own a part of NYC midtown real estate simply by having a handful of quarters. Yet media vans park on cordoned off parts of the 50's near Trump Tower for days on end. Maybe the mayor wants it that way.
