Christie’s to Auction David Rockefeller Art Collection

Christie’s auction house has secured the mandate to sell David Rockefeller’s art collection, reports the Financial Times.

The collection contains thousands of pieces amassed over six decades of collecting by the late billionaire and his wife Peggy. It could raise more than $500 million for "charity."

Harvard and the Council on Foreign Relations are among the "charities" set to receive a portion of the proceeds from the sales.

The planned series of auctions was organized by Rockefeller and Christie’s before he died in March.

Marc Porter, chairman for Christie’s Americas, said the auction would be among the “largest and most important sales ever held”. He added that “no one will have seen [the collection] unless you were in” one of the Rockefeller homes.
