Taylor is the Mary and Robert Raymond Professor of Economics at Stanford University, and the George P. Shultz Senior Fellow in Economics at Stanford University's Hoover Institution.
He is most well known for developing the Taylor Rule.
He met with President Trump when Trump was considering who to nominate for the chairmanship of the Federal Reserve. A nomination that eventually went to the current chairman Jay Powell.
At the "Strategies For Monetary Policy: A Policy Conference" held at the Hoover Institution on the campus of Stanford University, I asked Taylor if he would accept a nomination to the Fed for one of the two current open seats. He gave the below sort of non-answer answer.
