POLL: Chris Christie Opens Up Lead Over Rand Paul

A recent poll by CNN/ORC International shows New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie opening up a wider lead over Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul in the Republican sweepstakes, reports the Journal-Courier.

Christie is preferred by 24 percent of Republicans and independents who say they favor the GOP, according to the survey. Paul has 13 percent. The previous poll, in September, found Christie leading Paul by a much narrower margin of 17-13 percent.

Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, the 2012 GOP vice presidential nominee, is at 11 percent in the CNN poll, compared to 16 percent in September.

Former Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has 10 percent, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio 9 percent, Texas Gov. Rick Perry 7 percent, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and former Pennsylvania Gov. Rick Santorum each are at 6 percent.

On the Democratic side, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is favored by 63 percent of Democrats and independents who lean Democratic. Vice President Joe Biden is at 12 percent.

If Clinton decides not to run in 2016, Biden is favored by 43 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents, according to the survey
