OMG One in Six Americans Thinks Alan Greenspan Still Runs the Federal Reserve

According to a Pew Research Center poll conducted Sept. 25-28, given four names as options, just 24% of respondents were able to correctly identify Janet Yellen as the current Fed chairwoman.

College graduates had the best odds of identifying Yellen, with 45% making the correct choice. She’s known to 33% of people aged 65 and older. Just 14% of people age 18 to 29 know she’s running the Fed.

Some 17% in the latest poll picked Greenspan.

John Roberts, the chief justice of the United States, was identified as Fed chairman by 5%. He trailed Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who had 6%.

About 48% said they didn’t know, or refused to answer the question, in the survey of 1,002 adults which has a 3.6 percentage-point margin of error.

Such ignorance is unfortunate yet unsurprising. But then, what's the difference? ;)

  2. Look on the bright side, this means at least 41% of people know there is a federal reserve.

  3. Wish we had no reason to know who it is. Lets hope the day comes when politics doesnt matter and society is ordered by markets instead of the elite. Then, people can persue their own interests and it wouldnt make a darn who was president or FED chair, etc.
