Looks Like They Are Going to Go After Rand Paul On the Basic Freedom Issues

HuffPo is reporting that in an interview in the upcoming Sunday New York Times magazine, Rand Paul says that he doesn't believe that automobile passengers should be required to wear seat belts:
But in light of your distrust of the federal government, where are you on an issue like seat belts? Federal legislation requiring people to wear seat belts could obviously save lives.

I think the federal government shouldn't be involved. I don't want to live in a nanny state where people are telling me where I can go and what I can do
I am not sure NYT and HuffPo ever got Thomas Jefferson's idea of what freedom means. The NYT's follow up question to Rand Paul is, if you want to call it a question:
You shouldn’t trivialize issues of health and safety by calling them nanny issues.
HuffPo's comment is:
Maybe Paul should run for the Senate in New Hampshire -- it's the only state that does not require adults to wear them (after all, the state's legendary motto is "Live Free Or Die").

Now, we will have to see if the people of Kentucky are as confused about what freedom means, as are HuffPo and NYT.

Power Seeking Naked Aggression in Kentucky

Trailing by double digits, Rand Paul's opponent in the race for the Kentucky Republican senate nomination, Trey Grayson, is clearly desperate. In a new television spot he attempts to link Paul to Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

W. James Antle, III at The American Spectator has a fair comment on the Grayson attack.

Meanwhile, the BIG question has to be, "Is this attack being funded by the, supposed libertarian, billionaire Koch brothers?" Lew Rockwell seems to think so.

If it is, I think we need to move them from the libertarian camp to the oligarch camp. They may be using libertarianism, when it is convienient, as a fig leaf to hide their naked aggression for power, but funding Grayson over Paul tells us that power seeking is their real game.

Dick Cheney Gives Rand Paul's Opponent the Death Kiss

Dick Cheney today announced that he is endorsing Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson over Rand Paul in the GOP Senate primary.

“I’m a lifelong conservative, and I can tell the real thing when I see it. I have looked at the records of both candidates in the race, and it is clear to me that Trey Grayson is right on the issues that matter — both on fiscal responsibility and on national security,” Cheney said in a statement released this morning.

“The challenges posed by radical Islam and Al Qaeda are real and will be an on-going threat to our domestic security for years to come. We need Senators who truly understand this and who will work to strengthen our commitment to a strong national defense and to whom this is not just a political game,” Cheney said.

“There is no doubt that the real conservative in this race is Trey Grayson, and there is no better choice for Kentuckians in May and November.”

Recent polls show Rand Paul is leading Grayson by a 2-1 margin.

Rand Paul Versus Democratic Opponents

The latest Rasmussen Report results released for the Kentucky Senatorial poll (9/30; 500 likely KY registered voters) show Rand Paul trailing Democratic candisate Attorney General Jack Conway by only 4 points, 42-38%, but Paul leads Lt. Governor and 2004 Senatorial nominee Dan Mongiardo 43-38%, in separate pairings.
